Send a welcome email series

Youโ€™ve built something you think is awesome, you want your users to feel the same way. So you set up some automated onboarding emails. Nailed it.

In the workflow below we are sending a series of 4 emails. There is a fixed delay between each email and the workflow culminates with a goal.

Send different emails based on the company size

Every SaaS product is made for different companies and different organization, small, big and large.

Suppose that you want to send an automated email to your new leads based on how big the companies where they work for are.

  • Small Businesses should receive an automated email from one of your Sales Dev Reps

  • Medium Businesses should received an automated email from the VP of Sales

  • Large organizations should received an automated message directly from the CEO

Send a tailored Welcome Email based on the user role

Letโ€™s imagine that you work at B2B SaaS company and your product is an issue tracking management software. Your product is probably used by users in product, marketing, and developers who each leverage it for different purposes.

Each persona has a different goal:

  • Product managers will likely use the product to track product development.
  • Your developer team may use it for software development.
  • Your marketing team might use it to plan campaigns and schedule tasks.

Each user has different interests and different goals that they want to accomplish with your product.

Your question is: how can I be more relevant for my users? How can I send them something they want to read? How can I surprise them with something that is tailor-made for them?

Segmenting by user role is a smart way to do it. Since your product is being used by different personas and each has a different goal, you will want to speak directly to each persona.

In the workflow below we are implementing this logic by calling a Clearbit Enrichment API to get the userโ€™role. We then used that enriched information to branch the logic of our customer journey.

Send email based on what feature the users was looking for

Before your users know they want to buy your product they usually do some research befors actually signing up or asking for a product demo.

In this workflow we are trying to infer what could be their original interest by semgenting for pages they visited before they signed up and send a first email that tackle that exact point.

Proactively offer customer support to users who have issues

First experiences matter and when a user who is trying to signup gets rejected you are not making a good impression.

In this workflow when Plainflow received a failed singup event, send an automatic email to the users saying that we already allarmed our customer success and weโ€™ll be in touch soon as soon we resolve the issue.

Help users learn your product with positive reinforcement

Suppose that your SaaS product require your users to install a little Javascriptp snippet in their website.

Unfortunately, not everyone in any given company can do that by his own.

Engineers can get this done really quickly, but people in marketing, product or sales might require some extra help in getting started.

In the workflow below after the user signup we call a Clearbit Enrichement API to get the role of the user and the technology stack of the userโ€™s company.

If the users is in engineering he wonโ€™t have any problem installing that snippet, but if the users works in marketing or product or sales he will probabaly need the help of someone in the tech team to accomplish this.

If we noticed that they are using google-tag-manager in their company stack, they can get this done autonomously and we can be more even more relevant.

Only when the javascript gets in installed weโ€™ll be sending the user an email who now ask to accomplish their first action (2nd email ๐Ÿ’Œ).

Trigger a different referral when the user is active on twitter

In this simple workflow we are segmenting all the users who have a premium subscription and enrich their profile with Clearbit Enrichement to better understand some of their social traits.

For those who have an active twitter profile we want to send a different email and be more specific.
